INGREDIENT PROFILES
These key ingredients were selected based on scientific studies that showed positive effects for weight loss.
The Mighty “B” Vitamins
B Vitamins – B vitamins (thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, pyridoxine, folic acid, cyanocobalamin, biotin and pantothenic acid) form part of the coenzymes that enable enzymes to release energy from carbohydrates, fat and protein. An increase in metabolism produces an increase in the requirement for vitamin cofactors and deficiencies lead to fatigue and poor mental functioning. Additionally, consumption of refined foods decreases the amounts of B vitamins present in our diet. This formula provides a complete complement of B vitamins at values that meet the Recommended Daily Value established by the US Food and Drug Administration.
Thiamin (B1)
-
Required for metabolism
-
Assists in recovery from physical and mental fatigue
Thiamin is required for carbohydrate metabolism and is an important coenzyme in nerve cell function. It is suggested that thiamin may be beneficial in recovery from exercise induced fatigue and decrease mental and sensory fatigue. Thiamin exists in the body as phosphate, TPP, and is a primary coenzyme. TPP involves two major biochemical reactions in carbohydrate metabolism.
The Research
Exercise Induced Fatigue: A study looked at two groups of athletes, one with normal thiamin concentrations and another with low concentrations. Subjects were given 100 mg/d of thiamin or placebo 3 days prior to exercise. Thiamin supplementation suppressed the elevation in blood glucose in the normal thiamin group. There were fewer complaints of fatigue, indicating that thiamin may promote recovery from exercise.

Riboflavin (B2)
Essential nutrient for energy production
Riboflavin is a yellow-colored nutrient involved in dozens of metabolic pathways leading to energy production and the making of fatty acids and sterols.
Riboflavin is an essential nutrient and plays a key role in energy production.
The research
Athletes: Riboflavin requirements may increase during exercise due to its role as a coenzyme in protein synthesis, energy metabolism and cell division. Riboflavin is needed as coenzymes for energy-producing pathways.

Niacin
-
Promotes fat synthesis
-
Critical for energy production
Niacin, also known as nicotinamide and nicotinic acid, plays essential roles in a large number of energy pathways. Perhaps as many as 200 enzymes are dependent on this nutrient. Niacin, through its metabolites, is involved in a variety of biological processes including:
-
Energy production; NAD+, a niacin metabolite, is used in metabolic reactions to transfer the potential free energy stored in carbohydrate, fat and protein to NADH, which is used to form ATP.
-
Synthesis of fatty acids, cholesterol and steroids, NADPH (the reduced form of NADP+), serves as the reducing agent in fatty acid and steroid biosyntheses. It also serves to maintain glutathione in its reduced form.
B6 (Pyridoxine)
-
Vital to our existence
-
Responsible for metabolism
-
Responsible for manufacturing red and white blood cells
Vitamin B6, or pyridoxine, is a water-soluble B vitamin that is important in the functioning of a host of enzymes and amino acids. Because of its role as a coenzyme, it is vital to our existence. In fact, vitamin B6 can be considered one of the most important nutrients based on its responsibility in the metabolism of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. Without this vitamin, our bodies would not be able to manufacture red and white blood cells, hormones, insulin, adrenaline, anti-bodies, and neurotransmitters.
Folic acid
-
Needed for protein manufacturing
Well known for its importance in preventing birth defects, Folic acid, also plays many other health giving roles. Folic acid, also known as folate, is a B vitamin needed for cell replication and growth. Folic acid helps form building blocks of DNA, the body’s genetic information, and building blocks of RNA, needed for protein synthesis in all cells. Folic acid generally functions in cooperation with vitamin B12 in many metabolic reactions, including the synthesis of DNA.
B12
-
Needed for metabolism
-
Increases energy
Vitamin B12 is a water-soluble vitamin needed for normal nerve cell activity, DNA replication, and metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and protein as well as the production of the mood-affecting substance Sam-e. Vitamin B12 is connected to a coenzyme form and is essential for normal metabolism in all cells especially those of the gastrointestinal tract, bone marrow, and nervous system. The vitamin also functions in protein, fat, and carbohydrate metabolism.
Vitamin B12 also has been shown to increase energy, where as a deficiency causes fatigue. Years ago, a small, double-blind trial reported that even some people who are not deficient in this vitamin had increased energy after vitamin B12 injections, compared with the effect of placebo injections.
Biotin
-
Plays a key role in carbohydrate, fat and protein metabolism
Biotin is involved in the metabolism of carbohydrates and fats.
Biotin is necessary for the production and utilization of fats and amino acids in the body. Biotin is a cofactor for enzymes that are involved in the metabolism of carbohydrate, fat, and protein. Enzymatic reactions involving biotin allow the transfer of carbon dioxide, CO2, in biochemical reactions that are essential for the metabolism of carbohydrates, fat, and protein.
B5 (Pantothenic acid)
-
Required for energy generation
Pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) is an essential component of coenzyme A (CoA) which is required for chemical reactions that generate energy (ATP) from carbohydrate, protein, and fat.
Added Benefits of The Mighty “B” Vitamins
Since B vitamins and their coenzymes play important metabolic roles in numerous biochemical reactions throughout the body, they can influence just about every aspect of brain and physical health. As a rule, individuals who take B vitamins notice improvements in:
Mood and energy
Alertness
Learning and memory
Speed of thinking
Verbal fluency
Concentration and focus
Visual clarity
The Mean “Green Tea”
Miracle Fat Burner and Potent Antioxidant
Green Tea Extract
-
Promotes thermogenesis
-
Supports fat oxidation
-
Decreases appetite
Green tea extract contains caffeine that has been shown to increase the metabolic rate. Green tea extracts also contain the antioxidant ECGC. These two compounds appear to act synergistically to promote thermogenesis (the generation of heat by oxidation of fats, carbohydrates and proteins) and decrease appetite. Green Tea is a rich source of antioxidants, mainly in the form of catechins, which are naturally occurring phytonutrients found in the tea leaves. Researchers have confirmed that these phytonutrients may play a role in controlling body composition and aiding weight loss.
The Research
Fat Oxidation: Green tea supplementation may help with weight control. Plant ingredients in green tea, such as caffeine and catechin polyphenols, may increase 24-hour energy expenditure and fat oxidation in humans and help with sympathetic release of noradrenaline and management of obesity. Green tea polyphenols have been found to inhibit the action of amylase, a carbohydrate-digesting enzyme present in saliva.
Scientific Reference.
In a small double-blind, placebo-controlled study with 60 middle-aged obese women (30 to 45 years old), subjects were placed on a diet of 1,800 calories daily and randomly assigned to either a green tea supplement group or the placebo group. Capsules were taken at each meal for 30 days (250 mg x 8/day in 3 divided doses). After two weeks, the green tea group had lost twice as much weight as those on placebo. After 4 weeks of treatment, the women in the green tea group had lost 3 times as much weight (6.39 lb) as those on placebo (2.07 lb). Compared to the placebo group, the green tea group also showed a significantly greater reduction in waist size (-0.83±.54 in vs. –0.19±0.38 in), and in their blood triglyceride levels compared to the placebo group also showed a significant decrease. No side effects, including sleep loss, were reported.
Scientific Reference.
This research also noted that stimulation of thermogenesis and fat oxidation by the green tea extract did not raise subjects' heart rates. This may render green tea superior to stimulant diet drugs, which can have adverse cardiac effects, especially in obese individuals with hypertension and other cardiovascular complications.
An Essential Trace Element
Chromium Picolinate
-
Shifts weight loss from muscle tissue to fat tissue
-
Involved in sugar metabolism
Chromium picolinate supplementation may encourage weight loss and promote an increase in lean body mass by shifting the composition of the weight loss to fat tissue and away from lean muscle tissue. It’s an essential mineral needed for insulin activity in carbohydrate, fat and protein metabolism. Chromium is a stimulator of synthesis of fatty acids and cholesterol in the liver.
A National Institute of Health study indicates that chromium picolinate supplements enhance insulin sensitivity. Unless dietary trends do an abrupt about-face, the world is heading for a dramatic increase in type 2 diabetes. A good place to start thwarting this problem is by reducing intake of white flour and sugar. But emerging evidence suggests you should also consider making sure you are ingesting enough chromium. Scientists have long known that chromium is involved in sugar metabolism. Whenever your body mobilizes stored glucose, it requires chromium to do that.
The Research
Fat Tissue vice Muscle Tissue: A review of chromium literature conducted by Bell and Goodrick (2002) concluded that rather than weight loss per say, the important effect of chromium supplementation appears to be a shift in the composition of the weight loss to fat tissue rather than lean muscle tissue. The review cited several clinical studies that showed an increase in lean body mass following administrations of 200 to 400 mcg chromium picolinate per day.

The Best in Show for Adaptogens
Rhodiola (ro-de-oh-la)
Rhodiola
-
Superior adaptogen
-
Enhances immunity
-
Improves energy
-
Helps fight against fatigue
-
Aids in fat oxidation
Rhodiola rosea has been used for centuries in the traditional medicines of the people in Russia, Scandinavia and China. Clinical studies of Rhodiola, also known as artic root, indicate this adaptogen helps aid against mental and physical fatigue. Not only does an adaptogen help to cope with stress and the hassles of every day living, but they are also powerful antioxidants.
It’s in this formula to help dieters maintain physical performance and cope with the stress of dieting.
Rhodiola seems to enhance the body's physical and mental work capacity and productivity. It is said to strengthen the nervous system, fight depression, enhance immunity, elevate exercise capacity, enhance memorization skills, improve energy levels and possibly prolong life span.

The Research
Physical Performance: A double-blind study was performed on 24 young healthy volunteers who performed athletic tasks immediately after receiving treatment with either Rhodiola (200 mg extract standardized to 3% rosavin) or placebo. As a result Rhodiola increased time to exhaustion. In the second phase of this experiment, 12 subjects were given Rhodiola or placebo for four weeks and then again subjected to the physical tests. Four weeks of administration did not alter any of the measured variables. The authors concluded that acute dosing of Rhodiola improved endurance exercise capacity and this response was not altered by prior daily administration of Rhodiola.
Scientific Reference.
Based on in-depth studies by Russian scientists and researchers, trainers have recommended Rhodiola supplementation to many athletes for improving their speed and strength, as well as for enhancing their muscular density. Since it actively influences the metabolic processes in organs and tissues, Rhodiola extract is effective for preventing and eliminating the myocardial over-tension often associated with physical exercise. This greatly contributes to a better recovery processes after intense physical exercise.
Studies have shown that Rhodiola rosea is a powerful tool in the activation of fat tissue lipase (fat oxidation), resulting in the breakdown of stored fat. This can lead to lasting, safe weight reduction.
The same clinical study revealed that the presence of the rosavin unique to Rhodiola rosea was responsible in lipase activation, because other species of Rhodiola lacking in rosavin did not activate lipase. This discovery clearly indicates that the presence of rosavin in the extract is a critical factor in lipase activation and fatty acid mobilization from adipose tissue. Xenacore’s formula contains rhodiola rosea standardized to 3% rosavin.
